Am I following the 2 greatest commands?
Am I following the 2 greatest commandments Jesus gave? Am I doing what I do with love or do I grumble and complain? •Love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37, Deuteronomy 6:5, Psalm 31:23, Mark 12:30) •Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39, Luke 10:27) Beloved, sometimes we need a heart check! A moment to examine if we are living according to God’s standards and if we’re practicing what we believe. While none of us are perfect, we must do our best to continually strive towards obedience and ask God for help. As a believer in Jesus Christ, it is required to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37). Why is this the first great commandment and important in our walk with Jesus? Well… I’m glad you asked. God is the essence of love, and He must be at the center of all we do on this journey of life. God loved us first (1 John 4:19) and by doing so he teaches us how to love (John 13:34). Follows, is the next command to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39). We honor God by committing our service unto him (by loving as he teaches us to) and giving him glory (Colossians 3:17, 23). The scriptures also tell us that men will know we are Jesus’ disciples if we have love for one another (John 13:35). While life can be challenging and loving others can sometimes be the last thing on our mind when hurt, pain, disappointments, losses, and many other things happen in our lives. Many times, we are still called to serve despite the tragedies life brings. Remember God gets the glory from our lives when we do things without complaining and arguing (Philippians 2:14). The scriptures instruct us to cast all our cares on him (1 Peter 5:7) and by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving to let our request be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6). Beloved, we pray, you take a moment to consider your life and the direction you’re headed. Will you choose to love like Christ or live a life less than what God’s will is for you? It’s your choice… what will you decide? Additional scriptures: Deuteronomy 11:13, Joshua 23:11, Psalm 31:23, Mark 12:30-31, Luke 10:27, John 15:9-13, 1 John 4:7-8, 11-12
